David Litwak from Mozio is in the Lions’ Den
Mozio is a search and booking engine that focuses on the often ignored part of a travelers journey, ground transportation.
The idea for Mozio came from co-founder David Litwak’s own vast travel experiences. After traveling abroad to 55 countries, Litwak found that major travel search engines largely ignored ground transportation, and none were aggregating fares for taxis, trains, buses, ferries, shuttles, limos etc.
Mozio’s founders have admitted that they wanted to build a search platform for ground transportation in a similar fashion to what ITA Software (acquired by Google) had done for flights. The platform covers all forms of ground transportation, however, Mozio is focused on airport transfers in the long-term. Currently the startup’s airport transfer search engine covers over 1,000 airports and over 800 transportation providers. The majority of coverage is in the US, however airports in Europe, Latin America, Canada, Australia and Asia are also served.
Mozio announced their startup in 2012 and in May of 2013 raised $750,000 in seed funding from heavyweights in the travel industry including Orbitz’s Chairman of the Board and the founder of CarTrawler, a veteran car rental aggregator and ancillary revenue generator for airlines.
